Vogue: Hansel and Gretel fry witch Lady Gaga
Continuing to embody the famous children’s stories in the world of high fashion, the famous master of fashion photography Annie Leibovitz, with the help of a stylist Grace Coddington, Lady Gaga and top model Lily Cole, created a magical and a strange world.
“Little Girl & Boy Lost” photo shoot, from the December issue of Vogue in 2009, tells the familiar to us childhood story of Hansel and Gretel in its own way.

Annie Leibovitz was inspired to create this unusual fashion photo shoot after seeing the performance of a fairy tale about Hansel and Gretel in the Metropolitan Opera – a remake of an old opera, set by Richard Jones in 1893 at Engelbert Humperdinck opera.
So, the role of Gretel in this Vogue photo shoot was performed by a model Lily Cole, Hansel was portrayed by an actor Andrew Garfield, and a witch was played by the famous Lady Gaga.
The photo shoot story repeats and in its own way reinterprets the tale: a boy and a girl are left at home alone and hungry and go to pick berries in an enchanted forest. Having lost their way, children encounter strange and magical creatures, one of which lulls them: in their dreams children see a rich banquet.

Waking up, Hansel and Gretel go further and find a forest cottage, where lived a wicked old witch, who is planning to fatten and eat the boy.
However, savvy and smart kids manage to push the witch into the burning stove before she could bake them. The witch is burned alive, and all children, baked by her, are raised, and celebrate, singing together.
All these dramatic events of Lady Gaga, Lily Cole and Andrew Garfield are demonstrated in Leibovitz photo shoot in the clothes from Nina Ricci, Chloé, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana and many other great brands.
